Book Release – “You Are a Network”

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m happy to say it’s finally here. Welcome my first nonfiction book, “You Are a Network…And So is Everyone Else.”

This work came out of a number of years as a network marketing professional, speaking directly with clients, building a team of business partners, and speaking live to audiences of similarly minded professionals. I’ve spoken on a fairly wide range of topics, but this is my first time helping others overcome the notion that network marketing isn’t a legitimate business model.

Some of the leaders in the network marketing profession are correct when they say that there are really only four core objections to becoming successful in the industry. Those four objections are:

I can’t sell.

I don’t have any time.

I don’t have any money.

Is this network marketing?

That last question/objection carries a negative stigma that network marketing isn’t a legitimate business model. The assumption is that all network marketing companies, or multi-level marketing (MLM) companies aren’t legitimate. The terms pyramid scheme and Ponzi scheme get lobbed around. Skeptics begin to paint with a broad brush, assuming all companies in the industry are illegal or immoral, and fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) gets in the heads of new network marketers, and they quit.

You_Are_A_Network_coverart_ThumbAssuming that all businesses in an industry are anything is simply irresponsible. Assuming that every business in an industry is run with the utmost ethics and professionalism is equally naive. Let’s face it. Criminals exist in every industry, regardless of the go-to-market strategy. Enron used accounting loopholes to hide billions in debt. Bernie Madoff was convicted of the largest Ponzi scheme in history. Tyco International executives were convicted of fraudulent stock sales. None of these folks are remotely associated with network marketing. Bad guys are out there in every industry. There are plenty of white collar criminals out there who have nothing to do with the industry.

That’s not to say that there aren’t criminals in the industry. There are criminals in every industry, but there are plenty of legitimate companies in network marketing. In fact, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has guidelines on how to compare legitimate MLM companies against schemes. (Read the guidelines here.) In “You Are a Network”, we explore many of these aspects, and expand the conversation to cover the history of network marketing.

We’ll also cover the reasons that many of those new (or just plain stuck) in their network marketing business pause, falter, or flat out quit. Then, we discuss how to overcome those obstacles through skill building. We ask the type of questions that a new professional needs to survive and thrive in a network marketing career. For those who want to understand the challenges, history, and thrills of owning a network marketing business, this book will be a guide to success.

If this material is important to you, and your team, you can find out more at the book’s official website, or you can purchase your copy at Amazon.com.

To your success…

All the best,

nK

You Are a Network…and so is Everyone Else.

In the 21st Century, many of us define ourselves by our social outreach. We measure ourselves by the number of friends on Facebook, Followers on Twitter, Connections on LinkedIn, or on Pinterest, or on Google Plus. Connectivity is a measure of success. Even those who aren’t active online have their communities. They’re in book clubs, bridge clubs, you name it; everyone has a social circle.

Network marketing is people marketing. Every business seeking to be profitable engages in people marketing. New professionals and experienced veterans in the industry shouldn’t be afraid to be labeled as network marketers. Join author and network marketing professional Nick Kelly as he explores the history of the industry, the legitimacy of direct selling as a business model, and provides details on the schemes improperly associated with network marketing. Explore common objections, and the reasons for success and failure. Learn the skills needed for success in today’s increasingly connected world, and why now is the best time in history to be a network marketing pro.
