Everybody knows about the Blue Book for cars, but did you know there’s a Blue Book for music instruments?
That means it is possible to determine the market value for every old guitar, clarinet, violin, trumpet or drum kit that someone in your family (maybe you) started playing and then stopped. That instrument now takes up space in the attic, garage, closet, or storage space. It hasn’t been played in years, and its only chance of sounding out depends on the hours and wishes that were swept aside by higher priority things like family, the job, or other interests.
Fear not! Those sounds can be heard, and that language – the beautiful language of music – can be spoken by a new voice, fuel a new desire, and inspire new dreams.
This is the goal of the MAESTRO program.
In conjunction with Fit n’ Healthy Schools, MAESTRO (Musical Advancement and Enlightenment Through Responsible Outreach) is dedicated to finding the silenced instruments and uniting them with students hungry to learn and flourish in their study of music. Donors receive a tax credit for their instruments. The instruments are given to the schools. Students then have the tools and resources to begin their musical journey, or to advance their skills.
The MAESTRO program was founded in 2011 by Nick Kelly, a musician with over 20 years of touring experience. The program relies on the time and efforts provided by volunteers who understand musical instruments. Many of these volunteers are career musicians, instructors or retired professionals with a passion for musical arts. All efforts of the MAESTRO staff are 100% voluntary. These individuals give for one reason; to allow a new generation every chance to learn and thrive through musical expression.
If you have an old instrument you don’t (or never) played, and want to help inspire today’s generation of aspiring musicians, let us know. The MAESTRO program will provide you a receipt, pick up your instrument, and provide updates on the progress of the music programs we assist in the community.
